The Practical Logic of Public Space Creation in Old Industrial Areas in Urban Renewal ——Yangpu Riverside Area, Shanghai, as an Example

Abstract

Based on the good results of urban renewal in Yangpu Riverside Area, it is found that the creation of public space in the old industrial area follows five major logics, namely, the action logic of collaborative governance by the main stakeholders, the conceptual logic of
inheriting and innovating the local cultural lineage, the architectural logic of symbiosis and integration of multi-dimensional elements, the
value logic of asset restructuring for industrial transformation, and the landscape logic of adaptive asset reuse, which shapes a spatial structure pattern of coexistence between nature and architecture, and between the city and its people.
